Cynthia’s Dance Awakening

Cynthia Williams’ energy and laughter light up every dance studio she steps into. Her joyful spirit is contagious, and you can't help but feel uplifted in her presence. She embodies everything the Million Dance Reasons movement stands for, reminding us that dance is meant to be enjoyed, not perfected. She’s a living example of how movement can truly brighten your soul!

Cynthia Williams, a 62-year-old Fort Lauderdale native, lives with a passion for movement that goes beyond the typical boundaries of dance. Owner of Love, Sex, and A Sensual Awakening and a resident of sunny South Florida, Cynthia's philosophy on dance is both refreshing and inspiring: “Movement is movement, no matter what flavor it shows up in.”

Dancing for the Love of It

Cynthia's love affair with dance started long before she ever understood what "dancing" was supposed to be. She never focused on learning steps or perfecting moves—it was always about how music made her feel. “Luckily for me, I never was introduced to the fact that dance was something you needed to know how to do,” she reflects. This freedom from judgment or self-consciousness allowed Cynthia to embrace movement fully, without fear of being "good" or "bad" at it.

Dance as a Source of Joy and Vitality

In fact, when others would comment on someone's ability to dance or the skill they displayed, Cynthia remained unfazed. “I honestly didn’t care,” she says. The joy, energy, and enlightenment dance gave her mattered far more than anyone else’s opinion. It's this outlook that drives her to keep moving and exploring dance.

When Cynthia discovered formal dance classes, it felt like a breakthrough, though she humorously wonders why it took so long to find them. Regardless of being in a class or simply moving to music in her own way, Cynthia experiences dance as a source of life and vitality. “Dancing literally gives me life,” she shares. “It helps me feel younger, more energetic, and alive in my body.”

Healing Through Movement

For Cynthia, the beauty of dance goes beyond just the joy it brings, it also serves as a powerful way to release emotional blockages. She believes that it's impossible to dance and feel sad at the same time, a feeling shared by many who find comfort in movement.

Breaking Free from Judgment

Despite her love of dance, Cynthia has faced teasing over her unique style. Yet, she remains undeterred, dismissing the idea that dance is something you need to master. She challenges those who feel like they "can't dance" to break free from that limiting mindset. One of her favorite phrases when asked if she can dance is: “What the hell does that have to do with anything?”

Inspiring Others to Dance

Cynthia encourages everyone, no matter their skill level, to “dance and move like no one is watching,” and to inspire others to do the same. Cynthia's spirit and wisdom remind us all to connect with our bodies, find our joy, and express our souls through movement.
